5 Events to Help You Beat the January Blues

The sparkle and magic of the winter holiday season has given way to to the bitter cold chill of January. At this point, you have one of two choices; you can either hunker down under the blankets with an endless supply of cocoa and pray for spring to come early this year OR you can layer up and venture out of the house to check out these five awesome events happening downtown this month to help you pass the long winter days.

Sissy's Sircus - January 7-9, 13-16: Sissy Allen and her Misfits are back to bring you a concert style show full of burlesque, dancing, live music, high energy, and fun for the entire audience! Tickets are available at the Oster Regent Theatre box office starting at 6pm the night of the show for $15 each; receive $3 off ticket price with a donation of two canned items for the Iowa Food Bank. Voices from the Past - January 19: Cedar Falls' Historic Preservation Commission and Channel 15 invite you to join them in the video premiere of Voices from the Past at the Cedar Falls Community Center on January 19th at 7pm. Come learn about three influential early pioneers of Cedar Falls and the homes connected to them. Locals Rita Congdon, Richard Congdon and Linda Holm star as Mrs. Sartori, Mr. Rownd, and Mrs. Boehmler. Admission to the event is free!

Frostbite Friday - January 22: Join the Cedar Valley Young Professionals for the 8th Annual Frostbite Friday beginning at 5:30pm in downtown Cedar Falls! This is a spectacular networking opportunity to build relationships with fellow professionals within the Cedar Valley. The first 75 RSVP's will receive a commemorative cup and scarf! Dolly’s Taxi will offer half-priced cab fare to Frostbite participants. REGISTER HERE

Laser Tag - January 22: Adrenaline X Laser Tag returns to the Cedar Falls Public Library on January 22 from 6-9pm after hours in the Library! Open to all teens ages 13-18 and parents are allowed to join! Treats and water will be provided. A limited number of spaces are available and deadline to register is January 15th, 2016. REGISTER HERE

1st Annual SnowWhat? Celebration - January 30: The fun begins at the Iowa Games Snowshoe Race (5K or 10K) and Family Fun Hike in the morning at Hartman Reserve Nature Center. From there, roll right into the Iowa Games Fat Bike Race at George Wyth State Park that afternoon. And perhaps, most importantly, don't forget to rally back at the SingleSpeed Tap Room around 5pm for food, beer (including SnowWhat!), an incredible sense of community, and as always, storytelling, plenty of storytelling.
