Iowa is a hotspot for biking enthusiasts. With more than 1,800 miles of biking trails, biking is a pretty great way to explore our state, especially when it comes to Cedar Falls. The award-winning Cedar Valley Trails system invites riders to bike more than 110 miles of trails along the river, through the woods and even to our vibrant downtown! The trails also play host to numerous biking events for all ages and skill levels throughout the year.
Last year, Community Main Street, the Iowa Bike Coalition and the Cedar Falls Tourism Bureau partnered to bring the first ever gran fondo bicycle endurance event to the Cedar Valley. The Gran Fondo Cedar Valley has established a place on the annual downtown event calendar and will be returning this year on August 20th!
Registration for this year’s ride is currently available on the Gran Fondo Cedar Valley website. Whether you’re riding for beer, for food or for fun, we’ve got you covered. Your choice of a 100-mile or 60-mile route will take you throughout the Cedar Valley with regular rest stops set up in towns along the way. This year's rest stops are as follows: Denver (Dinner Bell), Klinger, Dunkerton, Gilbertville (10th Inning), Waterloo (Isle), Hudson (Randell's), Reinbeck (Broad Street Brewing), Dike and New Hartford (Beaver Creek).
Riders registered by August 7th get a t-shirt, plus a swag bag full of awesome goodies from places like Bike Tech, Cup of Joe, Europa Cycle & Ski, The Runner's Flat and more! Optional bike jerseys are also available for order! A $10 food voucher to dine downtown following the race is also included with registration.
We also want to make you a winner! All registered riders are eligible to enter to win a drawing for gift certificates to Scheels and downtown Cedar Falls. Riders completing the 100-mile route will receive a gold medal as well!
And don't forget to stick around after you're done to celebrate your finish during FondoFest! We've got live music, local brews, kid's activities and more. Check out our blog post next week for more details!
