The downtown merchants continue to give back to the community this month with downtown events! After hosting two events last week to support the Beyond Pink TEAM, the merchants are hosting a Fall Family Fun Day on Saturday October 10th to support our local Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging (NEI3A). The NEI3A coordinates services for individuals to help them maintain the independence they desire, including option counseling, caregiver support, recreation and education programs, respite services and meals programs.

Families are invited to stop by the corner of 4th and Main from 1-4pm on Saturday October 10th to help downtown merchants paint pumpkins that will be donated to local Meals on Wheels recipients. The NEI3A uses the Meals on Wheels program to deliver nutritious meals to residents in our community and the pumpkins we paint will be delivered along with their meals. Painting supplies will be provided and participants can even paint a second pumpkin to take home! A limited number of pumpkins are available for this activity.

A variety of other free fall crafts and activities will take place at the corner of 4th and Main from 1-4pm. Get your face painted by the ladies from Kate & Co. and color your entry for the Funtober Coloring Contest for a chance to win a prize from Vintage Iron! We’ll also have Halloween mystery boxes for you to stick your hand in to guess what's inside. And don’t forget to stroll the sidewalks to check out the parade of scarecrows that will be on display at various stores throughout the downtown district and vote for your favorite.

The Cedar Falls Public Library will also be hosting their first-ever StoryWalk® during Fall Family Fun Day! A StoryWalk® is an innovative approach to encouraging people of all ages to get out and walk while enjoying a children's book. Starting at the corner of 5th and Main, walk around the library's block while enjoying an interactive version of The Cow That Laid an Egg by Andy Cutbill and Russel Aytoa. This is a self-directed walk that can be done any time during the day.

The Runner’s Flat will also be hosting a 50K & 25K trail run on October 10th. A FREE 1 Mile Kid’s Adventure Run with obstacles will take place at 8:30am as well. Registration and further details are available online at

This event is sponsored by Community Main Street and the following downtown businesses: World’s Window, Vintage Iron Co, Uptown Tots, Twirl Boutique, Spotlight Style Boutique & Salon, The Sheep Baatique, Sassy Chic, Santa Cruz by Alexandra, Purse-N-ality, Pump Haus, Pink Peony Studio, Peekaboo Baby & Gifts, Miss Wonderful, Main Street Sweets, Main Street Exchange, LR Jewelers, L B L, Little Prairie Girl, Kitchen Essentials and Gifts, Kate & Co, Jiva Salonspa, Jennifer's On Main, The Ivy Trellis, Here's What's Poppin, Gallery 106, Fig & Frolic, Dean Jewelers, Cobblestone Creek and Basket of Daisies.
