About

Welcome to Cedar Falls Community Main Street's "Holiday Hoopla"

In 2009, a dedicated and passionate committee of volunteers, downtown merchants, and Community Main Street staff got together to create a new holiday event, affectionately dubbed "Holiday Hoopla." Holiday Hoopla creates a fun and memorable holiday experience for people of all ages during the holiday season in Downtown Cedar Falls.

Holiday Hoopla "Kickoff" is the Friday after Thanksgiving, 6-8 pm

Every year, Holiday Hoopla officially kicks off the Friday after Thanksgiving when Santa Claus "secretly" arrives and the beginning of the shopping season in the Downtown District begins.

The exciting Holiday Hoopla Kickoff festivities begin around 6 pm at the corner of 4th and Main Streets. Prior to Santa's arrival, Main Street comes alive with family fun. Live entertainment is featured on stage, holiday characters mingle with the crowd, and beautiful lights dance to the music at Santa's workshop. Enjoy singing and dancing to holiday songs, including a lively stage performance by Alvin & the Chipmunks. Take pictures with your favorite characters, and visit with Mrs. Claus in the workshop while she waits for her husband's arrival.

Santa’s ARRIVAL is ALWAYS a SECRET!

Did you know that Santa's arrival to downtown is always a secret? That is the magical suspense to the Holiday Hoopla Kickoff... no one knows how Santa will arrive, not even Mrs. Claus or Santa's elves!!!

Hoopla Kickoff ends with Spectacular FIREWORKS Display!

Once Santa arrives, Mrs. Claus will join him in a magical march down Main Street for the lighting of the Hoopla tree located at the corner of 1st and Main in Peter Melendy Park. Traffic will be blocked so that spectators can gather along the south bank of the Cedar River because the fun is not over! Everyone will help Santa and Mrs. Claus count down to light the Hoopla tree that triggers the grand finale: a spectacular show of winter fireworks over the river!

The Hoopla Continues in December!

The Holiday Hoopla celebration continues into the month of December. There are many fun activities planned on Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the season in downtown Cedar Falls.

Every Thursday: Nov 30th through Dec. 21, from 6-8 pm, families can visit Santa in his workshop located at the corner of 4th and Main Streets. There are also free horse-drawn trolley rides that start and end at the library. And, there will be specially themed events each week, beginning on Dec. 7 with "Jingle & Mingle;" followed by "Hoopla Cheer (6-10 pm) and Ugly Sweater Contest (8 pm)" on Dec. 14; and concluding with "Baby, It's Cold Outside" on Dec. 21.

Every Saturday: Nov. 25-Dec. 16 from 11 am - 2 pm, families can visit Santa and his elves in his workshop located at the corner of 4th and Main Streets. There are also special events each Saturday, beginning on Dec. 2 with "Breakfast at the North Pole," followed by "Santa's Snow Shuffle 5K Run/Walk" on Dec. 9 and concluding with "Movie Magic" on Dec. 16.

Holiday Hoopla would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors and volunteers! Thanks for making it a magical experience for all!
